FULLERTON, CA – The Hunger Artists Theatre Company is proud to present The Ackerman Experiment, a one woman show by Julie Ackerman.
The Ackerman Experiment features Julie Ackerman, a long time Hunger Artist company member, in an emotionally charged and comical one woman show about life, love and lesbianism. Ackerman studied acting and theater at Orange Coast College, in Costa Mesa, CA, where she appeared in many productions. At OCC her acting credits included classics such as Grease and Waiting for Godot, and several original productions such as Madame Guignol Macabre Theatre, Lutz Radio Hour and Unconditionally Julie. She served as student artistic director of the repertory, coordinating technical aspects on several concurrent and ongoing productions. Ackerman then went on to study with the Groundlings where she really fell in love with improve, sketch comedy and black box theatre. After leaving OCC Julie helped launch The Hunger Artists Theatre Company and became involved in both the artistic and technical aspects of production. Appearing in The Vagina Monologues, The Jungle Book, Marat/Sade, Where’s My Blank (an improve sketch during a one act festival), Rear Window, and Of Mice and Women (a reverse gender production of the classic tale.) and is a current company member. Ackerman is also a founder and member of Epic Laundry, an improv group. It is an Orange County based group performing occasionally at The Hunger Artists Theatre. Ackerman is a frequent panelist with PFLAG. She is a fan of The Indigo Girls, comfortable shoes, satchels and wallets. She is flannel enthusiast, who drives a sports utility vehicle, and wishes to remain quietly dignified and focus solely on her career and organizing a tour of the micro breweries of northern California. She is currently reading All Natural Beauty, Accepting Hair in All Your Right Places by T. Mykheils. “The Hunger Artists are extremely excited to produce The Ackerman Experiment,” says Artistic Director Jill Johnson. “Julie Ackerman has been a long time member of the Orange County theater community and is a talented performer. She is incredibly brave to be able to openly discuss the discoveries that she has made not only in life but also in her struggles as a proud lesbian.” The premiere performance of The Ackerman Experiment will take place on Saturday, September 24th at 11 pm.
