Writers' lockdown 11:00pm - July 17th

(Following a performance of The Taming of the Shrew.)

On Friday night, July 17th, at 11:00pm we locked five local playwrights into our theater with nothing but caffeine, computers and sweet, sweet inspiration to sustain them for the next seven hours. When dawn broke, we were the proud parents of five new plays!

The writers drew script elements from a hat ... a setting, a prop, a character, a line of dialogue, then a sound cue ... from prompts that YOU submitted anonymously via this website. Once all five elements were drawn, the writers were given 7 hours to complete their original script - incorporating all five of the prompts. These were ...

On Saturday, July 18th at 8:00am, five directors arrived to read through the new plays. At 9:30am, the actors arrived to be quickly cast in the plays. Throughout the day technicians, actors, and directors will worked quickly to learn, rehearse, tech, costume, and produce our new little bundles of joy. They scrambled to find costumes and props, furiously create settings, lighting cues, sound cues. And at 8:00pm on March 25th, for better or worse, we proudly presented to you THE WORLD PREMIERE OF FIVE NEW PLAYS THAT DIDN'T EXIST 24 HOURS BEFORE!
