Writers' lockdown 11:00pm - June 4th
Live performance June 5th at 11:00pm

On Friday night, June 4th, 2010 at 11:00pm we locked five local playwrights into our theater with nothing but caffeine, computers and sweet, sweet inspiration to sustain them for the next seven hours. When dawn broke, we were be the proud parents of five new plays!

The writers drew script elements from a hat ... a setting, a prop, a character, a line of dialogue, then a sound cue ... from prompts that YOU submit anonymously via this website. Once all five elements were drawn, the writers were given seven hours to complete their original script - incorporating all five of the prompts. The prompts chosen on Friday night were:

THE SETTING: Paris Fish Market
THE PROP: A plunger
THE RECURRING CHARACTER: Tubby
THE LINE OF DIALOGUE: "That's my story and I'm sticking with it."
THE SOUND CUE: The Wilhelm Scream

On Saturday, June 5th at 8:00am, five directors arrived to read through the new plays. At 9:30am, the actors arrived to be quickly cast in the plays. Throughout the day technicians, actors, and directors worked quickly to learn, rehearse, tech, costume, and produce our new little bundles of joy. They scrambled to find costumes and props, furiously create settings, lighting cues, and sound cues. And at 11:00pm on June 5th, for better or worse, we proudly presented THE WORLD PREMIERE OF FIVE NEW PLAYS THAT DIDN'T EXIST 24 HOURS BEFORE!
