PLEASE JOIN THE HUNGER ARTISTS THEATRE COMPANY AS WE PRESENT OUR FINAL SECOND STAGE PRODUCTION OF 2010 WITH THE BIBLE: THE COMPLETE WORD OF GOD (ABRIDGED) DECEMBER 11 - 19, 2010
FULLERTON, CA – The Hunger Artists Theatre Company is proud to present their final production in their 2010 Second Stage Series, The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged) directed by company member Kaitlyn Tice.
Wish you were acquainted with everything that God had to say, but just don’t have the time to sit down and read the whole Bible? Need someone to distill it down to the good bits, ahem, I mean the important parts? Then we have the show for you! Join our three “wise” men as they break it down in a hilarious theological lesson.
The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged) premiered in July, 1995 at the Kennedy Center where it ran for 12 weeks. It made its UK premiere the following year at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding New Play.
This production features Cody Chavez, Freddy Chavez and Alfonso Neavez. Freddy Chavez was seen early at the Hunger Artists in our production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged). Cody Chavez and Alfonso Neavez are making their Hunger Artists debuts.
Lighting, sound and set design were done by Kaitlyn Tice and Matthew Washburn. Washburn as also the Stage Manager for this production. The Bible: The Compete Word of God (abridged) was written by The Reduced Shakespeare Company members Adam Long, Jane Martin and Austin Tichenor. The company was founded in 1981 by Daniel Singer, who wrote a 25 minute version of Hamlet for the Renaissance Pleasure Faire. They later wrote a 20 minute version of Romeo and Juliet which they also performed at Renaissance Faires and street performances. It was suggested to them that they take their Hamlet to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and in order to create a longer show, they decided to throw in the rest of Shakespeare’s plays thus creating the Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged). They followed up with The Compete History of America (abridged) and The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged). “I'm extremely excited to present the final installment of the Abridged series,” says director Kaitlyn Tice. “The Complete Word of God: the Bible (Abridged) is informative & zany, with just the right amount of reverence. Alfonso, Freddy & Cody offer their own "scholarly" insight on Bible stories & lessons. Relearn everything you've forgotten from Sunday school & discover some items the Bible missed!” Kaitlyn Tice has been a Hunger Artists company member since 2007. She most recently directed The Complete History of America (abridged) and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) earlier this year and The Taming of the Shrew last summer. She has also appeared in several productions at The Hunger Artists, including The Vagina Monologues, Company and Flying Spaghetti Monster: The Holy Mug of Grog. “I’m so happy to be closing our first Second Stage Season with The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged),” says Artistic Director, Amber Scott. “We’ve had a great deal of fun this year with the entire Abridged series and this is a perfect companion to our slightly more serious main stage production of The Spirit of Man.” Performances of The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged) will take place on Saturdays at 5 pm and Sundays at 4. General admission tickets are $15; senior and students (with valid ID) may purchase tickets for $12. Patrons may purchase tickets online by visiting our website (www.hungerartists.com).
