PASTAFARIANS
REJOICE!
THE HUNGER ARTISTS THEATRE COMPANY CLOSES ITS
10th ANNIVERSARY SEASON
WITH THE WORLD PREMIERE OF
THE FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER HOLIDAY
PAGEANT
December 1 17, 2006
FULLERTON, CA Finally, a holiday
pageant for the rest of us! The Hunger Artist Theater Company celebrates the worlds
newest and quite possibly best religious movement, Pastafarianism, with the world premiere
of The Flying Spaghetti Monster Holiday Pageant, a hilarious, fast-paced comedy written by
Jeremy Gable and directed by Katie Chidester, December 1-17, 2006.
Founded in 2005 by physics graduate Bobby Henderson to protest the decision by the Kansas
State Board of Education to require the teaching of intelligent design as an alternative
to biological evolution, The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster venerates a
supernatural Creator that resembles spaghetti and meatballs.
In his Noodly Wisdom, the Flying Spaghetti Monster created the world out of trees, a
mountain and a midget. To prove the existence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, Henderson
has graphed a correlation between the decline of pirates and the rise of global warming.
Followers of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) call themselves Pastafarians, and advocate
the teaching of FSMism alongside Intelligent Design, in keeping with President George W.
Bushs belief that "
part of education is to expose people to different
schools of thought.
The Hunger Artists new comedy picks up after the Kansas State Board of Education decision
to add Intelligent Design to its curriculum. School teacher Ms. Fism can't keep up with
the number of religions that she has to teach. For Week 37: Flying Spaghetti Monsterism,
the audience is treated to an Old School holiday pageant with pirates, strippers and a
beer volcano (!) From the beginning of the world (including the aforementioned trees,
mountains and a midget) to present-day (with contemporary Internet prophet Bobby
Henderson), it's a celebration of free speech, religious freedom, diversity, equality, and
of course, pasta.
The Flying Spaghetti Monster Holiday Pageant features an all-star cast from throughout the
community including Susy Davis, Leonard Joseph Dunham, Jeremy Gable, James Grant, Scott
Keister, Becky Kinder, Jessica Lynch, MaryAnne Mosher, Robert M. Tully, Amber Scott and
Antonio Viramontes.
Joy Bice designs lights for The Flying Spaghetti Monster Holiday Pageant. Costumes are by
Grace Lynch. Props are by Jessica Lynch. Christina Acero designs sound, and Antonio
Swagler is the productions scenic painter.
We are so honored that Bobby Henderson has given The Hunger Artists his blessing to
create and produce this first-ever Flying Spaghetti Monster Holiday Pageant, says
Associate Artistic Director Jeremy Gable, Clearly, we all want to honor the pleas
for tolerance and inclusion made by this countrys leaders. We feel that by
presenting this, we are contributing, even if only in some small way, to the rich
spiritual traditions of this great country.
